Wild Thailand Multiactive – mountain bikes, jungle trekking and sea kayak expedition

Go wild on this multi-activity trip, a near perfect combination of physical activities, spectacular sceneries and hidden, rarely-seen places. Go on mountain bike tours to unknown Bangkok and the hinterland of Koh Pha-ngan, an exciting 2-days jungle trek through the oldest forests in Southeast, as a contrast for a leisurely lunch cruise onboard a traditional rice barge in ancient Ayutthaya. Spend a night onboard the famous southbound night train and immerse into underwater worlds of colourful coral reefs at the paradise island of Koh Kradan – and here we are just getting started, Krabi, the most beautiful region is still to come. Climb 1237 steps to the summit shrine of the Tiger temple, followed by challenging coastal jungle hike to the top of the snake head mountain with unforgettable panoramic views over the dramatic karst cliff landscape, the coast and the offshore islands all the way to Koh Phi Phi. This outstanding tour concludes with an iconic 2-day sea kayak expedition into the beautiful island world of the southern Phang Nga bay where we set up camp on a lonely beach.

Itinerary

Arrival and transfer with A/C van to your hotel in the middle of the old town. Explore the interesting area around the hotel. Visit the impressive Wat Bowon, then through the nearby Khao Sarn Rd. And take the ferry and sky train to 'Downtown', Siam Square, where you can stroll along the so-called sky walk past the row of large shopping centres. Continue with Klong ferry on the historic Klong Saen Saep to the impressive Golden Mt. with a great view of the mega-metropolis. In the evening you can go to one of the many night markets on Khao Sarn Rd. Banglampoo and the old town. 2 nights in Bangkok.

By express boat and on foot to bike rental. From here the exciting mountain bike tour starts through narrow streets into the heart of old Bangkok, which only a few visitors see. Quiet streets, narrow canals, old temples, wooden houses and neighbourhoods, where time seems to have stopped, paint a very unexpected, almost rural picture of the big metropolis. Lunch break in a small, local restaurant. Here you can try local specialties. Past the original China Town, a traditional Kon Dance puppet theatre. At the end of the tour, take a longtail boat through narrow canals to Chao Praya, past the old royal palace to near Khao Sarn Rd.

Early departure from Bangkok after breakfast and drive to Khao Yai National Park, World Natural Heritage and oldest national park in the country. You meet your ranger, then continue through the dense jungle to the Haew Suwat waterfall, which became famous in the film “The Beach”. This is where the trekking begins, through ancient forest on a challenging jungle path, with great views of waterfalls and ancient giant trees – and the ever-present chances to encounter wildlife. Overnight in simple huts near the headquarters of the National Park. (Walking time: 4-5 hours, 8 km) In the evening the guide organizes dinner at the huts. Afterwards there is the possibility of a night safari. in the evening Sambar deer, porcupines and other animals can often be seen near the huts.

After a refreshing night in the middle of the forest and breakfast at the HQ the trek continues through old forest to the Nong Pak Chi watch tower and on to the end point. Again, the route offers good opportunities to see wildlife. (Walking time: approx. 5-6 hours, 8.5 km). Continue to the northern exit of Khao Yai National Park. Check-in to a small hotel. Since the area north of the Khao Yai National Park is considered a wine-growing region, there is the option of a wine tasting nearby in the afternoon.

Return to Bangkok. On the way visit Ayutthaya (1.5 hours / 100 km). At noon (around 12.30pm) you board a traditional river boat. Enjoy a tasty lunch on board as the boat glides past the imposing ruins of the old capital. Continue to Bangkok and board night train (2nd class sleeping car) to Surat Thani.

Day 6 :
The island

Arrival in Surat Thani. Transfer with a private A/C van to the port of Don Sak and by ferry to Koh Pha-ngan. On Koh Pha-ngan transfer to the hotel at Haad Chao Pao and check-in. The beach is great for swimming and snorkelling. Dinner at the resort or one of the surrounding restaurants.

Short transfer (approx. 20 min. 10 km) with the hotel pick up to the starting point of the partly steep hike to the summit of Khao Ra, the highest point on the island (627 m). From here you have a great view of the island and neighbouring Koh Samui. Lunch box picnic at the summit and back the same way.

Enjoy a wonderful, relaxed bike tour to the more remote places on the island. From the village of See Thanu, by mountain bikes on quiet asphalt roads, dirt roads and forest trails. En route visit to the village school, a reservoir and the extensive coconut plantations. The road becomes hilly towards to the fishing village of Chalok Lum, later visit to the oldest temple on the island, the 400-year-old Wat Ma Deua Wan. Lunch in one of the small local restaurants before continuing to Pang Waterfall. Here the last 2 kilometres have to be hiked through dense jungle and take a cool bath in the middle of the jungle. Further stops at viewpoints and an interesting longtail shipyard invite you to linger. After returning to See Thanu transfer to the hotel.

Travelling day to the Andaman coast in the west. Ferry to Don Sak. With A/C van via Thung Song and Trang to Haad Yao Pier (approx.4.15 hrs / 307 km), ferry to Koh Kradan. Check-in at the simple but cosy Kradan Beach Resort.

...or optional tours (e.g. to the beautiful uninhabited Koh Rok island not too far away). Your guide will help you choose and book.

Early departure (08.00) with a longtail boat to the mainland (approx. 1 hour depending on the weather) and transfer with a private A/C van (2 hours) to Ao Nang. Check-in in the small, pretty Baan Nai Resort. The afternoon is free, but there are 2 exciting options to choose from: either you learn the secrets of the famous Thai cuisine or you try rock climbing, both at the nearby stunning Railay Peninsula. (Railay cooking class OR discover Rock Climbing with Real Rock Climbing.) Both options guarantee an exciting afternoon on the famous Railay Peninsula. In the evening sundowner on the dream beach of Railay and by longtail boat back to Ao Nang.

Early morning departure (5 a.m.) to see the sunrise from as high as it gets - climb over 1237 steps to the summit shrine of Wat Tham Suea, the Tiger temple in Krabi. The hotel will give you a light breakfast box. The view of the surrounding karst cliffs, the coast and the city at sunrise will definitely reward you for the effort. Return to the hotel and breakfast. Later, departure for second hike today, probably the most beautiful coastal hike in the whole of the south. From the resort you already have a beautiful view of the Snakehead mountain(517m), which dominates the entire coastline. A Songtaew (30 min drive) will take you to the trail head at the foot of the mountain. The partly steep path takes about 1.5 - 2 hours uphill to the summit, again with great views of the coast, mountains, islands and Ao Nang. After your return go for a swim at the iconic Tubkaek beach, where the Hong islands dot the horizon, - backdrop fort scenes of the Hollywood movie „Hangover 2“.

Early transfer to Ao Thalane Pier. Here you meet the kayak team and start with a longtail boat the islands of the Thanbok Korannee Marine National Park in the south of Phang-Nga Bay north of the Hong Archipelago. After a short briefing, it goes into the spectacular paradise island world, towards steep walls, hidden beaches and snorkelling spots, that few may ever see. After arriving at the overnight location and setting up the tents on a deserted beach, there is enough time to swim, relax while the crew prepares the dinner. Unforgettable nights on the beach on a desert island in a tent or under a star-lit sky.

After breakfast, the camp is packed up and stowed away. We will leave nothing behind, except our footprints in the sand, before kayaking to the picturesque islands and karst formations in the immediate vicinity - many say one of the most beautiful landscapes on earth. Afternoon to Koh Hong and Koh Pak Bie. Again, it is worth exploring the countless bays by kayaking and snorkelling before the white beach of Koh Hong invites you to swim. At 3.30 p.m. departure to Ao Thalane, and transfer with an A / C Vans back to Baan Nai Resort in Ao Nang.
